Finals hopes were on the line as the fourth-placed Strathfieldsaye faced fifth-placed Quest.
The doubles matches were split as Quest’s Isaac Watson and Brad Reeves teamed up for a 6-4 6-1 win against Michael and Easton Smyth.
Strath struck back as Nick Bath and Tova Penno beat Ryan Brook and Marcus McDougal, 6-2 6-1.
Watson’s unbeaten run in singles continued in a 6-4 6-1 triumph against Easton Smyth.
Michael Smyth played well to beat Reeves, 7-5 7-5.
Bath’s winning run was broken in a 5-7 4-6 loss to Brook.
Penno played brilliant tennis to defeat McDougal, 6-1 6-0.
The contest was locked on three rubbers and six sets apiece, but Strathfieldsaye led the games tally, 59-51.
• Epsom’s superb run against the ladder-leading Spring Gully Butterflies rolled on.
The Gully’s nemesis in the 2016-17 season struck again as Epsom scored a 55-49 victory in a match locked on three rubbers and seven sets apiece.
Two rubbers went to super tie-breaks.
A top contest hit off with a 2-6 6-3 10-7 win by Gully’s Jamie Brown and Matt Hartland against Jack Baker and Jono Guy.
It was one-all after Ben Bailey and Brad Slingo scored a 6-3 6-3 win against Bronwyn Osborne and Danielle Bowles.
In the singles, the Butterflies won the number one and two contests as Brown beat Baker, 6-2 6-3, and Hartland defeated Guy, 7-6 6-1.
Bailey outplayed Osborne, 6-1 6-0.
Slingo beat Bowles 4-6 6-3 10-6.
• South Bendigo won four rubbers on its way to an 8-62 to 5-52 win against Bendigo Lawn Rising.
Highs for South Bendigo were a 7-6 6-4 win by Jordan Hicks against Jacob Grieves, and a 4-6 6-2 10-5 victory by Grant Leader against Rashelle Blencowe.
South Bendigo won both doubles rubbers.
Grant Leader and Peter Somerville conceded one game in a straight-sets win against Blencowe and Dom Barton.
