The 19-year-old from Bendigo Harriers cleared 2.18m and became the Centre’s record holder for high jump at open and under-20 level.
The previous best of 2.16m was achieved by John Knight from Bendigo YM in December, 1984 at Epsom.
Knight has held the open residential record of 2.20m since February, 1985.
That record leap was made in Brisbane.
Baldwin’s in hot form going into the Victorian open and junior track and field championships to be run across the next two weekends at Melbourne’s Lakeside Stadium.
Thursday’s twilight meet included relays across a variety of distances, as well as discus, long jump and shot put at the Latrobe University Bendigo athletics complex in Flora Hill.
Bendigo University’s David Heislers, Ross Douglas, Jim Russell and Mike Bieleny were in record-breaking form in the first of the relays.
The University quartet won the 4 x 800m in a time of 10:14.76 and now hold the Centre record for the 50-plus class. Clubs worked well to field several mixed teams in the relays.
The tally of records broken in Bendigo this track and field season has passed the 50-mark. A best of 29.26m by Eaglehawk’s Leah Langtree at discus is the new Centre record for the 40-plus division.
Ron Nancarrow from South Bendigo starred at shot put. At 80-years-young, Nancarrow achieved a best of 7.56m to hold the Centre record in the 80-plus category.
Other athletes in top form at the meet included Louis Schenker from Bendigo Harriers at long jump, and clubmate Christopher Browne at discus and shot put.
