Fiji defeated the Philippines by six wickets at the QEO, Vanuatu made light work of Indonesia at Dower Park and Samoa defated Japan by six wickets at Canterbury Park.

Fiji, rated by many as the tournament favourite, cashed down the Philippines’ competitive total of 180 with more than 12 overs to spare.

Philippines’ best batsman Karweng Ng, who spent his childhood living in Bendigo and Woodend, made a superb 71.

 Mohammed Imran Khan did the damage with the ball for Fiji, taking 5-20 off 10 overs.

In reply, Peni Volavola (67 not out) and  Seru Marutu Tupou (33 not out) added 90 for the fifth wicket to guide Fiji home.

Vanuatu’s decision to send Indonesia into bat at Dower Park paid dividends.

Vanuatu struck early and Indonesia never really recovered.

Vanuatu spinner Jelany Chilia bowled with great control, taking 3-10 off 9.2 overs as Indonesia was bowled out for just 82.

The match was over before the lunch break after Vanuatu openers Joshua Rasu and Jonathan Dunn unleashed a stunning attack on the Indonesian bowlers.

Rasu smashed 52 not out from just 36 balls and Dunn made an unbeaten 24 as Vanuatu passed Indonesia’s total inside 10 overs for the loss of no wickets.
