Bendigo residents who leave hard rubbish on their nature strip could face fines of more than $300, even if they advertise the odd ends as free.

The City of Greater Bendigo is reminding ratepayers there is no hard waste collection in Bendigo and unwanted items need to be disposed of at the municipality’s landfill or transfer stations.
The reminder comes after what environment and local laws manager Susannah Milne said was an increase in TVs, furntiure and mattresses being left by the roadside.
“Placing hard waste on the nature strip is considered littering and makes our city and towns look unsightly,” Ms Milne said.
“Even placing items on the nature strip (and) advertising them as free is also not permitted.”
She encouraged people to offer their unwanted goods to charity organisations, or to sell the items online.
Littering in Bendigo can attract fines of up to $311.
Using the city’s tip also comes at a cost: while computer monitors and TVs are accepted free of charge, it costs $10.30 to toss out a mattress and as much as $160 per tonne for other domestic and industrial waste.
