Forty cents from every litre of Farmers’ Fund milk sold goes towards the fund, which was established by the Victorian Farmers Federation to support dairy farmers in south-eastern Australia.
The Bendigo CBD Coles supermarket, on the corner of Myers and Williamson streets, was the top regional location for sales of the Farmers’ Fund milk and in the top five Coles stores in Victoria.
Since September, more than 12,000 litres of the milk have been sold at the supermarket.
VFF president and Farmer’s Fund advisory panel chairman David Jochinke said it was encouraging to see so many consumers supporting dairy farmers by choosing to buy the milk.
As a result of the sales and a $1 million donation to the fund from Coles, grants of up to $20,000 were allocated to 60 farming families in the first round of funding.
More grants will be provided in the second funding round this month.
All funds raised through the sale of Farmers’ Fund milk will be distributed through a new round of grant applications every three months.
“The livelihood of local farmers is of the utmost importance and we will continue to support the industry with grants from the Farmers’ Fund,” Mr Jochinke said.
Applications for the third round of Farmers’ Fund grants will open for dairy farmers from Monday, February 20.
