A trainer at The Human Mechanics, Jarratt was recommended for a position at Stanford while interning at the the University of Sunshine Coast’s performance development centre.
Jarratt has taken a job at the centre with the intention of moving onto Stanford.
“I will be training athletes, running courses at the university and final opportunity is an internship at Stanford in San Francisco,” he said.
“That opportunity has come through Matt Bousson (who runs the centre) and worked with Hans Straub, who is the director of Olympic sports performance at Stanford.
“Hans and Matt were chatting and Matt said he's cray about a Division 1 internship with a top college in US. Hans said if he works for you, he’s got a position with me. That was the biggest highlight of life to hear that.”
Jarratt has had hopes of training athletes at an elite level since high school and has been working hard to get his foot in the door at Stanford.
“I went through every division 1 college in America and wrote out the contacts from 65 contacts for the strength and conditioning,” he said.
“It took three days to put together with the intent of contacting every director. But I wanted Stanford, that's why went after Matt Bousson.
“I called him every day for a month and have deferred my masters in exercise physiology at La Trobe to go after this career.”
Jarratt said no matter the level of the athlete he trains, he loves seeing them achieve their goals.
“If it’s a professional athlete training for national or world titles or a client who has had surgery and is trying to walk again, when we achieve the goals, it fulfills me,” he said.
“I get more out of seeing people achieving sports goals than I ever did while playing sport.”
The Human Mechanics chief executive Arj Perera said Jarratt is sure to achieve his own goals.
“I have no doubt Todd will realise all of his coaching and career aspirations. He has determination essentially tattooed on his forehead,” Perera said.
“His thirst for knowledge and current coaching repertoire make him an absolutely asset to any elite sports environment.
“We strive to teach our staff to be industry leaders and that's what sets us apart. It's fantastic that this quality has (helped) Todd to his next career pathway.”
