Cinetopia will launch on Tuesday, February 7, and will see Star Cinema dipping into film archives to encourage the region’s movie buffs to further enjoy the unique offerings of the arthouse cinema in Eaglehawk’s historic town hall.
The first film to be featuring is 1988 Academy Award-winner Cinema Paradiso.
It follows the story of a filmmaker recalling his childhood, when he fell in love with the movies at his village’s theatre and formed a deep friendship with the projectionist.
“We’ve chosen Cinema Paradiso to launch cinetopia because it’s about a love of cinema,” Star Cinema Business Manager Martin Myles said.
“We really believe that nothing compares to the big screen, and it doesn’t matter how big your Samsung telly is, you’ll never get a screen like this in your lounge room.
Mr Myles said Star Cinema offers a very unique experience that you won’t find anywhere else in Central Victoria.
“Cinetopia will make it even more special. (It) aims to enhance what we currently screen by offering a greater diversity of film from a broad palate of genre, culture and era,” he said.
“It will appeal to an audience thirsty for a cinema experience in the vein of Melbourne’s Astor Theatre.”
Tuesday’s launch will feature pre-film entertainment from storytelling songstress Kavisha Mazzella and a special guest speaker in Castlemaine State Festival director Martin Paten.
Programming manager Hannah Morton said she’s had enjoyed choosing the films to eb featured as part of Cinetopia.
“Cinetopia promises a mix of firm favourites and movies never before screened in Australian cinemas,” she said.
“We did something similar last year when we screened Ladies of the Chorus, which was Marilyn Monroe’s first feature film.”
“It was shown to celebrate the Marilyn exhibition at the Bendigo Art Gallery, and had never been seen on a big screen in Australia.
“We look forward to cinetopia offering many more unique, first-of- a-kind cinema experiences.”
Star Cinema will launch Cinetopia on Tuesday, February 7 from 6pm. For details and bookings go to www.starcinema.org.au or call 5446 2025.
Cinetopia will screen every Tuesday at the Star Cinema from 7pm. Two movies will be chosen each month and screen on alternate Tuesdays, so patrons will have two opportunities to see the films. Tickets prices will be $11.
