The 201cm forward joins the forward after leading the Bahrain pro league in scoring with an average of 33.5 points per game.
The 25-year-old Hampton University graduate has also played professionally in Japan and in the ABA in the United States.
“He’s very athletic, he rebounds and he’s a shot blocker. He suits the style of the SEABL,’’ an elated Braves coach Ben Harvey said.
“At 201cm he gives us a player who can defend multiple positions. He thrives on defence and he is versatile. That’s the type of player I wanted.
“Last year we were the best defensive team in the league and that’s what we want to be again this year.”
Maxwell is no slouch offensively, with Harvey expecting his athleticism to trouble SEABL defences.
“Du’Vaughn can score and is very good on the offensive rebound,’’ Harvey said.
“He has some tools in the low block and has a mid-range jump shot.
“I know the Bendigo fans will like Du’Vaughn. He is an animated character, he likes to dunk the ball and when he dunks he gets excited and pumps up the crowd.”
Maxwell joins guard Dyami Starks as the Braves two new US imports following the departures of Jeremy Kendle and Damian Johnson.
“The great thing about Du’Vaughn and Dyami is that they’re hungry to succeed,’’ Harvey said.
“They want to get to the next level. Du’Vaughn has experienced international basketball in Japan and Bahrain where he put up good numbers.
“Now he wants to prove himself here.”
Maxwell and Starks are scheduled to arrive in Bendigo in late February.
The reigning champion Braves have been moved from the east conference to the south conference for the 2017 season.
The Braves first game is at home on Saturday, March 25 against Dandenong.
