Having been the regional cricket manager for the Inner East Melbourne Region since 2010, Koop has this week been appointed AFL Central Victoria’s new football development manager.
Koop takes over the position vacated by Rick Coburn after three-and-a-half years in the role following his appointment as the new coach of the Bendigo Pioneers in December.
Koop has also previously spent time as Cricket Victoria’s regional development officer for the Central Highlands and Barwon regions between 2006 and 2009.
“Given Shane’s previous positions within cricket, he brings great experience to the role, particularly in the areas of stakeholder management, junior and introductory program development and promotion, coaching, umpiring, school sport, club governance and club development,” AFLCV said in announcing Koop’s appointment.
Koop has a diploma in Sport, Recreation and Management and has undertaken the Cricket Australia High Performance coaching course.
As well as his new role at AFLCV, which he starts on February 6, Koop is also the captain coach of the Bendigo Cricket Club.
Koop’s appointment as AFLCV football development manager follows the recent announcement of Carol Cathcart stepping up from the role of BFNL manager to AFLCV regional manager, taking over from Paul Hamilton.
Meanwhile, start dates for the 2017 AFLCV senior competitions are:
Bendigo – Friday, April 14 (Good Friday).
Heathcote District – Saturday, April 8.
Loddon Valley – Saturday, April 1.
North Central – Saturday, April 8.
