Public Transport Minister Jacinta Allan has defended the state government’s handling of V/Line delays, after Greens leader Greg Barber called for the regional rail provider to be hauled before a parliamentary committee.

Ms Allan said the government was pursuing long-term solutions to heat restriction issues on the network but stopped short of predicting the delays could be eliminated entirely.
“The Victorian regional network has to cope with a whole range of temperatures, from freezing temperatures in the middle of winter to the really hot temperatures in the middle of summer,” she said.
“All rail network’s around the world and across Australia have to operate to the local environment and the circumstances here in Victoria mean that in these very, very hot periods there does need to be some of these speed restrictions.”
