Under the VicHealth and Surfing Victoria Coasting program, women can take part in three supervised sessions in which they progressively learn the skills of the sport.
The program is delivered in Bendigo by Stillwater Paddleboards, which will be offering it until April.
Owner Lola Makar said not only was paddleboarding good for general fitness, but it was also an opportunity for women to meet new people and socialise.
Emma Healion said she had given the sport a go because it was something different.
Fellow participant Camille White said they had had “three absolutely brilliant nights” during the sessions.
Coasting is one of six programs offered under VicHealth’s Changing the Game initiative, an effort to involve more women in sport.
VicHealth chief executive officer Jerril Rechter said most women did not meet the recommended 150 minutes of physical activity each week.
The Coasting program costs $150 for the three sessions.
