Fire crews were called to the Schaller Studio on Lucan Street shortly after 6.30pm, to attend to a fire that had broken out in a garden bed and spread into the building.
Bendigo senior station officer John Lane said it appeared the fire had been sparked by a cigarette butt that had been thrown into the garden bed that ran along the building and ignited the mulch.
He said the fire spread under the building, an area which was used for storage.
Mr Lane said it was lucky the items in the storage area had not been kept closer to the wall, because if they had been set alight the outcome could have been much worse.
Instead, the damage was limited to some irrigation pipe and scorching on the metal panelling.
