Dinner-table debates over what to order and whether there is a place for pineapple on pizza are sure to be sparked again after online food guide MenuLog named Sally’s Pizza the best pizza in Bendigo.

Owners John and Kate Kabalan said their Kangaroo Flat pizza place is popular because of the friendly atmosphere and the family’s secret dough recipe.

“It's a family recipe and a family business. The dough recipe has been in the family more than 40 years,” he said.

“We treat every customer like family and love the community.”

The Kabalan family has run Sally’s Pizza since 2010. The restaurant is named after their late daughter Sally.

“We’re not on a main road, which can make it hard for a business. If you’re not good, people won't drive out the way to see you,” he said.

Mr Kabalan said the most popular pizza is Sally’s Special. It is topped with ham, mushroom, capsicum, onion, salami, olives, pineapple, prawns and cheese.
