The Maticevski: Dark Wonderland exhibition closed on Sunday and was popular until the end.
Originally slated to close in November, the fashion-based show was extended until January.
“It’s not often we have the opportunity to be able to extend an exhibition but it was very well received over summer,” Bendigo Art Gallery senior curator Leanne Fitzgibbon said.
“We have seen lots of locals come through for repeat visits and bringing visiting friends and relatives to see it.
“The best thing has been the visitor response. People have loved the strong focus on design and it was a wonderful opportunity to work with someone of the calibre of Toni Maticevski.”
Packing up the exhibition will take all week to de-install and be returned to Maticevski Studios.
“We have 63 complete ensembles made up of multiple parts, so it's a huge task for the week. It all has to be handled so carefully,” Ms Fitzgibbon said.
“There are also a number of accessories to pack. We start with cases and then work convert the space back to the white cube contemporary space.”
The gallery is also preparing to celebrate its 130th anniversary in March.
“The entire gallery will be re-hung to focus on our extensive collection,” Ms Fitzgibbon said.
“There will be many favourites returning to display but also some works that people won't have seen, new acquisitions and some very curious objects as well.”
