If past performances by the City of Greater Bendigo is anything to go by then alarm bells should be ringing very loudly within the Bendigo Rowing Club.

Every time the council says something is in need of maintenance or money spent on it they have plans to close it, as has been the case many times over the last number of years.
This council seems to know the word maintenance, but unfortunately they have no idea of its meaning.
If the new group of councillors can stop wasting money like the previous ones did, I am sure they will be able to find the funds for the boat called the “Weedeater”, which has previously removed the weeds from the lake, and return it to its former glory and not be an eyesore.
It would be fantastic for the rowing club and also the many visitors who stop by the lake daily.
I am sure the council would have no problems finding the funds if it was either the Art Gallery, Capitol Theatre or the Ulumbarra Theatre requiring works.

Weeds leave a bad taste
I am in full agreement with the concerns regarding the weed infestation at Lake Weeroona (“Cut the weeds”, Bendigo Advertiser, January 12).
As a walker who goes around the lake every day, and has been doing so for many months, I must say the weeds are a disgrace.
What wonderful memories visitors to Bendigo will take away with them. In particular, those visiting Bendigo for Australia Day.
Wonderful setting on manicured lawns surrounding a weed-infested lake.
I am sure if visitors to our Art Gallery were faced with a problem, it would be attended to at once.

End age of entitlements
Finally Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has made a decision to introduce an independant committee to oversea parliamentarians’ travel expenses so they don't rort the system anymore.
But he needs to go further than just travel rorts. He needs to show some honesty, toughness and sincerity about wanting to bring the budget back into surplus.
He and his government are targeting the pensioners and the disadvantaged into clawing back money through Centrelink, but they won't tackle the very rich and companies that are dodging the burden by not paying their share of taxes.
The other area is the lavish payments and extra perks all politicians receive once they leave parliament and the cushy jobs they get, something no other employee gets when they leave their employment through retirement.
It is fair to say that when politicians get voted out of office effectively they have been sacked, so therefore they shouldn't be entitled to all the extras.
You won't bring this to the table because you all want to keep your snouts in the trough and keep on the gravy train at everyone else’s expense. Why do they need to have an office, top class free air travel, cars etc all at the tax payers expense? What do the taxpayers get for their efforts?
It's about time all politicians and governments of all persuasions do the honest and noble thing by the people who voted for you to represent and make decisions in our best interests. When is someone going to stand up and start making the right and hard decisions to get this country back to a prosperous nation once again?
Stop all the backroom deals, the free trade that appears to be only one way and treat Australian citizens in the same manner as all the migrants and whoever else comes our way. I just wonder what is install for our children and grandchildren. It doesn't look very promising for them when jobs are not plentiful.
