The premises that can make the switch to the faster broadband service are in parts of East Bendigo, Strathdale and Kennington.
Construction to connect another 33,000 premises in the city is under way and people will be able to progressively switch to the NBN from this month.
The NBN will be delivered within the urban area by a fixed line service and work to connect the remaining premises is expected to be completed by the end of July.
NBN spokesman Michael Moore said another 680 premises in Junortoun would receive a fixed wireless service that was in the planning stage and due to be turned on by the end of the year.
He said planning was also under way for 10,500 premises in Eaglehawk, Jackass Flat, Maiden Gully, California Gully, Marong, Ascot, Epsom and Huntly.
Mr Moore said the NBN in these areas was scheduled to become active in 2018.
Fixed wireless services are already available in areas surrounding the Bendigo urban area, including Mandurang, Axedale, Lockwood, Longlea and Ravenswood.
Transferring to the NBN is not automatic and residents and business owners should contact their internet service provider once eligible to make the switch.
In areas where NBN fibre is available, existing landline phone, ADSL and Telstra cable internet services will be permanently disconnected.
