Bendigo Art Gallery has a selection of holiday workshops inspired by the gallery’s collection of landscapes and Post Office Gallery’s current exhibition Menagerie: animals in Bendigo history. We will also co-present NGV Kids on Tour, which celebrates the summer exhibitions at the National Gallery of Victoria. Workshops are suitable for children 4 to 14 years.
Workshops
The workshops will be staged between January 17 and 25.
Bookings are essential for all workshops and payment must be made at time of booking. Workshop dates may be swapped but unfortunately no refunds are available.
Four to seven years: cost is $7.75 per child. Accompanying adults are free. All students must be accompanied by an adult.
- Animals to draw and print: This workshop will be held at the Post Office Gallery and is inspired by Menagerie: animals in Bendigo history. This fabulous exhibition includes stories about everything from monkeys at the Bendigo Botanic Gardens, to goat racing, pests, horse-drawn transport and animal exhibits at the Bendigo Show. After viewing this exhibition and creating observational drawings of some of the displays, children will move to our studio to design and create some unique animal prints using foam, inks and rollers. Times, 11am – noon, January 17 and 24 and 1.15 – 2.15pm, Wednesday, January 18.
- A Gallery of my own: We all love Bendigo Art Gallery but we can’t take the art home. In this workshop children will be able to create a mini-gallery of their own featuring some of their favourite artworks. At the end of the workshop we will join all the artworks together for a giant gallery display. Times, 1.15 – 2.15pm, January 17 and 24 and 11am – noon, Wednesday, January 18.
Eight to 14 years: cost $10.75 per child, per session.
- Wonderland Dioramas: To begin this workshop we will gather ideas and images by viewing some of the gallery’s most inspiring landscapes. In the gallery studio space children will then have the opportunity to create their own imaginary 3-D landscape in a box. Times are 11am – 12.30pm, and 1.30 – 3pm, Thursday, January 19.
NGV Kids on Tour 2017: free, ages 4 – 12, 11am – 12.30pm, Wednesday, January 25. Bendigo Art Gallery and across the road at La Trobe Art Institute, VAC. Celebrating its fourth year, the tour program shares with children the contemporary art and summer exhibitions on display at the National Gallery of Victoria.
Through activities developed with artists, children will be encouraged to unleash their creativity by taking inspiration from exhibitions at the NGV.
