The Bendigo teenager didn’t bowl a ball in the Melbourne Renegades opening two Women’s Big Bash League games in Sydney last weekend, but it was an experience she’ll never forget.
“I had the best weekend. It was just unreal,’’ Vlaeminck said of the Renegades’ double-header against the Adelaide Strikers.
“It was so much better than what I thought it was going to be. Everyone was so professional and the crowds were great.
“I only ran the drinks and helped out in the warm-up, but it’s something I’ll never forget.
“We’ve got such a great group and we’re very close and it’s starting to show on the field. We’re enjoying our cricket.”
Vlaeminck continues to make good progress from her second knee reconstruction and is hopeful of playing with the Renegdes later in the tournament.
She’ll be “hydration manager” again for this weekend’s two games against Hobart on her home soil at the Queen Elizabeth Oval.
“I wish I could be out there... it’s hard to sit back and watch, but at the same time I’m really enjoying just being part of the team,’’ Vlaeminck said.
The Renegades and Hurricanes head to Bendigo with 1-1 records after the opening round.
The Renegades had their major training session on turf wickets at Camberwell on Wednesday.
They’ll have net sessions at the MCG on Thursday and Friday before travelling to Bendigo on Friday evening.
“I do the full training sessions, but I modify a couple of things,’’ Vlaeminck said.
“I do fielding at about 80 per cent and when I bowl I have a reduced run-up.
“I’m getting closer to full fitness. I feel as though I’m starting to bowl alright.”
Vlaeminck urged Bendigo sports fans to get behind the Renegades in their two matches against Hobart at the weekend.
“It would be great to see as many people as possible there supporting the Renegades,’’ she said.
“People who haven’t seen the WBBL before will be amazed by just how good the players are and how hard they hit the ball.
“The more people we have their supporting the Renegades the better.”
Saturday’s game starts at 4.10pm, while Sunday’s clash is scheduled for noon. Entry is free.
