South emerged victorious from Saturday’s round seven clash of the season’s two big improvers when it defeated Inglewood 103-85.
While it was a fourth victory in a row for South as it extended its best winning streak since returning to division one in 2013-14, Inglewood has lost three in a row.
Both South and Inglewood are a part of a ladder logjam in which just 10 points now separate third to sixth.
Saturday’s clash at Inglewood featured both teams winning two rinks apiece.
Three of the rinks were decided by four shots or less, but it was stand-in skipper Mitch Sidebottom’s 32-13 win over another stand-in skipper Nick Davies that ensured victory for South.
• Top side Bendigo handled the tricky carpet conditions at Castlemaine to win its fourth game in a row.
Bendigo prevailed 94-85 in what was a costly loss for Castlemaine as it fell from fourth to sixth.
The rinks were split two apiece, but Bendigo held sway thanks to Ian Ross’ 29-11 win over Ray McCumber.
The BBD’s No.1-ranked rink of Bendigo’s Andrew Brown was beaten 26-23 by Rick Parr.
• Eaglehawk continued its surge back towards the top four, winning its third on the trot with a 103-80 triumph at home over Kangaroo Flat.
The Hawks are now just one point outside the top four and their shot difference is in the positive at +19 having earlier been -58 after four rounds when they were 1-3.
Eaglehawk won three of the rinks, while there was a 26-all tie between the Hawks’ Ken Rusbridge and Flat’s Geoff Boyd.
The 23-shot victory keeps the Hawks unbeaten against Kangaroo Flat in their past 13 meetings.
• Golden Square has reached the halfway mark of the season winless after losing 115-88 to Bendigo East.
The East win was led by big performances from the rinks of Marc Smith (35-16 over Daryl Cheeseman) and David Keenan (34-23 over Mal Finch), which combined for 69 shots.
