Marist College principal Darren McGregor said the new facility would help build on the Catholic school’s teaching model, which integrated learning between primary school and high school.
“This enables us to complete a building that has students from the age of 10 through to the age of 14 all together,” he said.
“It means that kids in year 5 and year 6 can access a science lab, they can access a place to perform in the arts, so it’s providing them with what are traditionally seen as secondary school facilities but providing them for them while they’re still in year 5 and year 6.”
The centre is expected to be in use by the end of next year.
