An online toolkit and a video series have been launched to help victims of violence increase their safety.
The digital Escape Bag Checklist and Technology and Safety videos are available from the 1800RESPECT website.
The checklist helps women develop a safety plan, which might include preparing to leave an unsafe home environment.
Improving technological safety is the aim of the series of five videos, which cover: social media privacy and phone settings; location services on digital devices; disabling photo geotagging; safe use of email; and increasing device safety in response to remote monitoring.
Technological abuse was experienced by the clients of 98 per cent of the respondents to a national SmartSafe survey, which polled practitioners working with women facing domestic or family violence.
Federal Minister for Women Michaelia Cash praised both online tools, describing the role of ‘innovative online resources’ in helping women protect themselves from abuse as ‘critical.’
December 10 is Human Rights Day, the final day of the 16 days of activism against gender-based violence campaign of 2016.
