TWO trees stand at the south entrance to Bendigo Marketplace, their baubles a glittering, colourful tribute to the people no longer around to spend Christmas with their loved ones.
Matt Plathe and his family were among the first to decorate the Trees of Remembrance with a bauble and message for grandmother Jeanette, who died nearly four and a half years ago.
“It’s just important to remember people you were close to at this time of year,” Mr Plathe said.
The Trees of Remembrance have been set up by Bendigo Health’s palliative care team to give people the opportunity to include late loved ones in their Christmases.
Volunteer Helen Bothe hangs a bauble in memory of her late husband, John.
“You remember your loved ones every day, but Christmas time, to me, is a special time,” Mrs Bothe said.
People who want to leave a message can see the volunteers at the trees between 10am and 3pm until Friday, December 16.
Donations to Palliative Care Services are also welcomed.
