A SMOKE alarm has been credited with averting tragedy during a house fire at Knowsley in the early hours of Friday morning.
Two adults and two children were alerted to the blaze by the alarm and were able to escape before emergency services arrived.
“Smoke alarms save lives – and this morning is a great example of this,” CFA District 2 operations officer Andy Waterson said.
The house was destroyed, but firefighters were able to save a granny flat at the property.
The cause of the fire is not considered suspicious.
