THE Bendigo Bank Football-Netball League will continue its shift away from Sunday games next season.
The 2017 fixture released on Thursday features just two games on Sunday, with all but six of the 90 home and away matches to be played on a Saturday.
As well as two Sunday matches, the league will open with four games on Good Friday on April 14.
In the same round one matches as the previous three years at the request of clubs, Good Friday will feature South Bendigo playing Eaglehawk at the QEO, Kyneton hosting Gisborne, Kangaroo Flat meeting Golden Square and Castlemaine taking on Maryborough under lights at Camp Reserve.
Round one will be completed on Easter Saturday with a stand-alone match between Strathfieldsaye and Sandhurst.
Apart from the four Good Friday matches, the only other non-Saturday games will be Sunday clashes in which Maryborough takes on Kangaroo Flat in round seven and Eaglehawk hosts Gisborne in the featured indigenous round game in round six.
There will be no Queen’s Birthday Monday football next year after Strathfieldsaye and South Bendigo had played on the public holiday the previous three seasons.
The grand final rematch between Golden Square and Sandhurst will be played at MyJet Oval in round three, with the game to potentially be the first match played under the ground’s new lights.
The A grade netball grand final rematch will be played on Good Friday between Kangaroo Flat and Square.
Kyneton will use its new lights at the Kyneton Showgrounds for the first time in round three when it hosts Castlemaine.
And night football will make a return to Maryborough’s Princes Park when the Magpies tackle Kyneton under lights in round two.
South Bendigo will play three home games at Harry Trott Oval against Kyneton, Gisborne and Kangaroo Flat.
There will be a general bye on Saturday, May 13, for Bendigo’s inter-league game against Ballarat, while there will also be a general bye on the weekend of July 8.
