A 32-year-old unlicensed driver currently residing in the Castlemaine area will face court after rolling his vehicle while driving under the influence of alcohol.
The man flipped his black Holden utility while driving towards Harcourt in an 80 kilometre zone with a slight bend to the road at about 6pm this evening.
Castlemaine Police Senior Constable Jon Franklin said the vehicle’s wheel went in the gravel by the side of the road. This caused the driver to lose control of his vehicle and hit a steep embankment on the other side of the road.
Both the male driver and the female passenger declined an ambulance and no other vehicle was involved.
Senior Constable Franklin said the man would be summonsed to court for at least two offences – unlicensed driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.
“We may be looking at other charges,” Senior Constable Franklin said.
“We’re really trying to send a message to the community not to even think about drink driving – especially as we’re coming up to Christmas.”
