A new council will be established to address Australia’s gender pay gap and inequality for women at work.
The announcement of the Equal Workplaces Advisory Council comes a day after the launch of state’s first Gender Equality Strategy.
Boosting gender equality in the workplace was one of priorities in the 10-year strategy, which was launched on Monday.
“We still have a long way to go before workplaces are fully inclusive and supportive of women,” Minister for Women and Prevention of Family Violence, Fiona Richardson, said.
“The gender pay gap, inflexible working conditions and unconscious hiring biases still affect women.
“This council is going to make it easier for women's voices and concerns to be heard.”
Australian women earn 77 per cent of men’s average full-time income, a difference of $26,853 for the average full-time female employee, Workplace Gender Equality Agency data states.
Women account for nearly half of the workforce.
