South Bendigo’s Ron Nancarrow and Eaglehawk’s Geoff Major continued their record-breaking form.
Geoff Shaw from Bendigo Harriers added the 60-plus triple jump to his records tally.
There were many superb performances in the seventh round of Shield action at the Latrobe University Bendigo athletics complex in Retreat Road.
Major and Nancarrow again starred in the 80-plus class.
The 1500m walk included Major setting an Athletics Bendigo Centre record time of 12:35.93 for the 80-plus category.
Nancarrow was in top form at discus and hammer.
He hurled the discus 13.64 metres and the hammer 18.71 metres.
At triple jump, Shaw leapt 9.50 metres to become the record-holder for the 60-plus record.
Shaw broke the previous best of 8.60m set by South Bendigo’s Robert Scholes in January, 2013.
The finale to the afternoon’s track action was the 4 x 400m relay.
South Bendigo’s Carol Coad, Lisa Minchin, Annette Curtis and Jennifer Payne broke the women’s 50-plus record as they clocked 6:23.31 for the event.
Among the many athletes to shine were South Bendigo clubmates Lucy Zotti and Jake Hilson in the 200m, Eaglehawk’s Barb Bryant and Bendigo Harriers Brenton O’Brien in the 3000m and 1500m walks, Ben Powell from Bendigo Harriers in the 800m, Bendigo Harriers Jalen Hoskin and Eaglehawk’s Josh Henthorn in the 60m dash.
Daniel Plowright from South Bendigo won the 5000m in 18:21.98 and showed he will be a leading contender for this Saturday’s running of the Ben Stolz Myotherapy-sponsored Ern Hammer Memorial 3000m.
Stars in the field included Eaglehawk’s Denise Snyder at high jump and clubmate Olivia Graham at hammer throw, Bendigo Harriers Liam Schreck at triple jump, and South Bendigo’s Bree Heiden at discus.
