ELMORE’S walk ace Zahra Hayes struck gold at the weekend’s Australian All Schools track and field championships in Canberra.

A student at Rochester Secondary College, Hayes continued her superb season as she strode to victory in the under-14 3000m walk.
The teenager achieved a time of 14:34.51 at the Australian Institute of Sport.
Hayes is a member of South Bendigo Athletics Club.
Swan Hill’s Emma Berg starred in the under-16 discus and shot put at the All Schools finals.
Berg’s best of 14.10 metres clinched silver in the shot put.
The South Bendigo Athletics Club member threw the discus 41.95m and earned bronze.
Melbourne Grammar’s Fraser Symons, who previously competed with Bendigo Harriers, was in hot form in the under-16 200m hurdles.
Symons clocked a time of 25.94 seconds to win silver.
Scotch College’s Archie Wallis, who has competed at Bendigo several times, won silver in the under-18 800m.
Wallis raced around the track in 1 minute 49.51 seconds.
Other athletes with links to Bendigo clubs who represented Victoria at the All-Schools were Taryn Furletti from Kilmore International College, Weeroona College’s Abbey Hromenko, Girton Grammar’s Matilda Moore, and Kyle Murphy from Wanganui Park.
Furletti was sixth in the under-16 3000m and eighth in the under-14 1500m.
She broke the Bendigo Centre record for the 3000m at under-15 and under-16 level.
Hromenko achieved a best of 1.55m to be 14th in the under-16 high jump.
Moore clocked a time of 7:41.32 as she raced to 11th place in the under-16 2000m steeplechase.
Murphy leapt 14.47m to be fourth in the under-18 triple jump.
Liam Richardson from Girton Grammar earned selection for the AWD under-18 100m and 200m, but did not compete at the championships.
