A truck carrying the rubbish flipped on the on-ramp about 5.30 Tuesday morning, causing traffic chaos and huge traffic jams.
Monash freeway today. Cursed. So much traffic. I move maybe 300m before stopping. Lord knows what time I'll get to work.— Liz (@nightxshade) December 5, 2016
Half an hour earlier a second crash involving two trucks on the Monash near Huntingdale Road at Mount Waverley added to the chaos. Two more later car crashes made for a mess of a morning.
The earlier crash involved two trucks, one a roadworks vehicle. One of the trucks slammed into the Monash's central wire barrier.
The driver of the more seriously damaged truck, aged in his 20s, was trapped by the legs for 45 minutes. The man suffered leg injuries and was taken to The Alfred hospital in a stable condition.

At 7.30am it was taking 37 minutes to drive the 14.4 kilometres from Eastlink to Warrigal Road on the Monash.
The truck on the on-ramp spilt petrol onto the road, but fire fighters were on hand to mop up the fuel.
The truck's driver was treated by paramedics and taken to the Monash Medical Centre in a stable condition.
