A number of buildings and landmarks across the city have been festooned with festive decorations and now the most prominent of them all, the enormous Christmas tree in Rosalind Park, has been lit up.
Hundreds of people showed up to the park on Friday night to share in the celebrations and enjoy an evening of free entertainment.
The event included performances from Spring Gully Primary School students, dance school Belle Etudes, CV Dance, Albert Skipper and the Bendigo Carollers.
But the main attraction for many was the lighting of the tree.
Bendigo’s Young Citizen of the Year Breanna Thomas and deputy mayor Rod Fyffe were given the honour of flicking the switch, illuminating the tree with lights in a rainbow of colours.
The lighting of the Christmas tree was one of the first events on the Summer in the Parks calendar, a program of free and low-cost events being held in local parks throughout the warmer months.
