The 26-year-old was denied bail in the Bendigo Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday facing a range of charges including theft and dangerous driving.
Police allege the man smashed the window of a dual cab utility parked in Epsom on November 19, stealing a telescope, tripod and keys.
The victim saw the items for sale on Facebook two days later and contacted police, who conducted a raid on the man’s house the next day.
In addition to the stolen items, police also found small ziplock bags of amphetamine, a vial of GHB, an ecstasy tablet and a small amount of cannabis.
He denied stealing the items, and said he had simply bought them online.
The man was also charged in relation to a stolen car, which police allege was used to evade arrest.
The man’s partner offered her residence for a bail address, but was unaware of the man’s alleged drug possession.
Magistrate Jennifer Tregent denied bail and the man will reappear in court at a later date.
