The team, formerly known as the Bendigo Gold, has now become part of the Bendigo Basketball Association and Bendigo Braves and will play its first tournament in its new colours in Gippsland.
The Wheelchair Braves will be among eight teams competing in two divisions in the Regional Wheelchair Basketball Tournament being run by Basketball Victoria.
Bendigo is pitted in Division B and will be aiming to go one better than the last tournament it competed in when it finished second.
Representing Bendigo will be Joe Chivers, Bree Mellberg, Jontee Brown, Caleb Logan and Kim Hampton.
Wheelchair basketball in Bendigo is now stronger than ever
“The team was founded in 2008 and had humble beginnings as a couple of people shooting hoops together,” the BBA said.
“Fast forward eight years and wheelchair basketball in Bendigo is now stronger than ever after the recent decision to align with the BBA and Bendigo Braves.”
The weekend tournament in Gippsland will provide an opportunity for the Wheelchair Braves to further develop their skills ahead of the inaugural Bendigo Wheelchair Basketball Tournament coming up in January.
