The City of Greater Bendigo has approved the development of Plan Bendigo which aims to cater for a projected population of 200,000 people by the middle of this century and a regional population of 300,000. 

Mayor Margaret O’Rourke said the plan would include 10 to 15 top infrastructure priorities.

“It will have a two-pronged approach – to build on existing infrastructure and support inclusive growth, so as everyone will have an opportunity to fully participate in the community,” Cr O’Rouke said.

“This will mean a focus on placing housing development close to public transport connections and identified activity centres.”

Cr O’Rourke said the proposed Bendigo Metro Rail and the city’s transport strategy – which promotes ‘10 minute neighbourhoods’ – would be central to Plan Bendigo.

A new industrial park at Marong, urban growth opportunities in Maiden Gully, new schools and recreation facilities were also among key planks of the pan, she said. 

Plan Bendigo will be completed by January 2018.
