Support for a central Victorian charter aimed at reducing funding for fossil fuel development and climate change is growing.
The Centre for Non-Violence is among the most recent signatories to the Central Victorian Fossil Fuel Free Charter.
Chief executive officer Margaret Augerinos said it no longer made sense for the Bendigo-based social justice, community organisation to help fund the injustice of climate change.
“Divesting from fossil fuels simply means shifting our banking, super and electricity accounts to corporations committed to either not funding the fossil fuel industry or phasing out these investments as soon as possible,” she said.
“We urge other community sector organisations to also align their financial arrangements with their vision, mission and values.”
Bendigo Sustainability Group became the city’s first community organisation to sign the charter at its launch in Bendigo in September.
Almost 100 signatories are listed on the charter’s website.
