Inglewood was the talk of the BBD last Saturday when it opened its season with a 28-shot belting of Eaglehawk at home.
Now it takes on a Kangaroo Flat side that is tipped to be one of this season’s battlers and is coming off a 57-shot hiding from Bendigo East.
Inglewood’s rinks were all up last week, while the Flat took no points out of its game against East.
Only four times since returning to division one in 2008-09 has Inglewood won back-to-back games, with Saturday shaping as a golden opportunity to make it a fifth.
Last time: Kangaroo Flat 103 d Inglewood 94.
Since 2005: Kangaroo Flat 14; Inglewood 3.
Tip: Inglewood by 14.
• Eaglehawk and Bendigo East – two of the power teams of the competition that between them have won eight of the past 11 premierships – lock horns.
There will be plenty of attention on the Hawks at home to see how they bounce back from last week’s shock loss to Inglewood.
The Hawks lost all four rinks last week – the first time that has happened since the 2007 second semi-final against Kangaroo Flat.
Was it just an early blip on the radar, or could the Hawks – who have finished no lower than third the past 13 years – be on the slide?
It will be no easy task to regroup against the might of reigning premier Bendigo East, which has shot straight to the top of the ladder after a 57-shot thumping of Kangaroo Flat last week.
Last time: Eaglehawk 95 d Bendigo East 83.
Since 2005: Eaglehawk 15; Bendigo East 14; Tied 1.
Tip: Bendigo East by 19.
• Castlemaine will be aiming to make a 2-0 start to the season when it travels to meet the new-look South Bendigo.
The Maine got out of jail last week with a six-shot win over Golden Square in which it only had the rink of new skipper Ray McCumber (+19) – recruited from South Bendigo – win.
The victory was the second year in a row the Maine has beaten Golden Square in the opening round with just one rink up.
South Bendigo is coming off a 19-shot loss to Bendigo in which only the rink of new coach Brad Holland (+6) prevailed.
With both South Bendigo and Castlemaine shaping as two improvers this season after both recruiting well, this clash looms as an early gauge as to just which could take that next step.
Last time: Castlemaine 99 d South Bendigo 89.
Since 2005: Castlemaine 8; South Bendigo 4.
Tip: South Bendigo by 5.
• Golden Square will be determined to make amends for the one that got away last week against Castlemaine when it hosts Bendigo.
However, Bendigo is again expected to be around the mark again this season and will prove tough opposition.
Last time: Bendigo 104 d Golden Square 85.
Since 2005: Bendigo 12; Golden Square 8.
Tip: Bendigo by 14.
