Hamilton’s last day as the inaugural AFL Central Victoria regional manager was on Friday, ending a stint that began in April of 2013.
He has been appointed to the new position of AFL Victoria talent manager.
“It’s a position that oversees the pathways for talented kids through to the AFL,” Hamilton said.
“Probably the key things are overseeing the TAC Cup clubs with both a city and country manager, as well as women’s pathways and working with the 10 Victorian AFL clubs on their next generation academies.
“The bonus for me with that in coming from community football is that we take advantage of those academies from a community level, whereas the clubs are going to want to take advantage from a talent perspective.
“With what we’ve done in our region in building an academy from under-12s all the way through, we want to see that replicated in other parts of the state with the assistance of AFL clubs.”
Advertising for Hamilton’s replacement has begun this week. An appointment will be made in conjunction between the AFLCV commission and AFL Victoria.
“It’s sad to be leaving because there’s so many great people in the football and netball community across the region and great community spirit. It has been an honour to work with so many people who invest their time into the game,” Hamilton said.
