The environment department has launched a statewide operation to protect Victoria’s reptiles in response to an increase in illegal collecting. The department’s Glenn Sharp said Operation Granite was a timely reminder that it is illegal to remove reptiles from any public land. “Anyone found illegally taking reptiles from public or private land also risks having any personal property seized, including vehicles that have been used to assist,” he said.
