Police say the man entered an area of the hospital which was still under construction at about 2.20am on September 27 before stealing a construction worker’s hard hat and jacket.
After putting on the disguise, the burglar walked through the hospital, ripping a television from the wall and exiting the site through some temporary fencing on Drought Street.
When challenged by security staff, he threw the television to the ground and ran off towards Flood Street.
The man is believed to be Caucasian, aged in his 20s, 187 centimetres tall, with a solid build and light brown hair.
Anyone with information should call the Bendigo police station on 5448 1300 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
