The three-year-old nearly caused a boilover in the Poseidon Stakes (1400m) on October 2 at a generous 40-1 and will start at much shorter odds on Wednesday.

Gentle said the 1400m three-year-old race was definitely winnable.

"He's got a lot of weight (61kg) and 1400m is about as far as he wants to go," he said.

"It's a nice race for him to go on to a Listed race in 10 days time at Flemington in the Hilton on the Park.

"He ran second in a Listed race last start and I was going  to take him to Sydney on Saturday just gone, but the track was wet and I wanted him in one piece to run two weeks later in the Listed race.

"So, we saved him for Bendigo; he needs a gallop before Melbourne.

“He’s a progressive little horse, he’s still immature and developing and will be better in six months or so time.”

The colt has been placed at three of his four starts, including a win at Swan Hill on September 13.

Gentle is also bullish of the chances of Rosamond, who will be his first runner for the day in race two.

The four-year-old mare will appreciate a return to drier tracks after his last two starts were on heavy and soft going at Bendigo and Geelong.

"The only query would be whether 1400m is too short for her, she might need a bit further," he said.

Gentle will have two starters in the afternoon's final event, with Rushmore ($15) slightly favoured in betting over Star Zone ($20).

The former Sydney trainer said unlike Rosamond, Rushmore would appreciate a bit of moisture in the track.

"I'm hoping the track won't get too firm for him," he said.

"It looks a race he could run really well in.

"He had three runs in something like 12 days and handled it really well.

"He probably needs a little bit more jar in the track."

The five-year-old gelding has shown a liking for his home track, with three wins and five minor placings from 13 starts, including back-to-back wins in July and August.

Star Zone, a four-year-old gelding, will be better suited by a dry track, according to Gentle.

"I haven't seen how much speed there is in the race, but he'll get back in the field and should be finishing the race off well, maybe looking for a bit further again," he said.

"It's hard day to be getting a winner, but they'll all have a chance to some degree."

It's been a busy spring for Gentle, who has three-year-old Destiny Revenge nominated at Moonee Valley on Friday night and other runners likely headed to Kilmore on Sunday.
