Acting sergeant Peter Dyer of the Bendigo highway patrol said the 16-year-old L plater was driving on Camp Road with a fully-licenced driver in the passenger seat at about 12.30pm when she lost control.
“It appears the driver, who was very inexperienced, for reasons unknown lost control on the dirt road and hit a tree,” he said.
Sergeant Dyer said no penalty notice had been issued with police chalking the incident up to inexperience.
“There was no speed involved, no careless driving, we believe the young lady was keeping left as directed and went a little bit too far left into some loose gravel and then she’s panicked and over-corrected and lost control,” he said.
“Really there’s no other factors involved other than inexperience that’s caused it and hopefully it’ll be a learning outcome for her.”
The driver and passenger were both taken to Bendigo Health for observation.
