A strong cold front over western Victoria is expected to cross the remainder of the state today, bringing with it damaging winds averaging between 60 to 70 kilometres per hour.
Peak gusts could reach as high as 100 km/h, but will ease over central areas this morning and eastern districts by the early afternoon.
A substantial band of rainfall due after winds die down should miss Bendigo and its surrounds.
Still, the State Emergency Service has advised people to:
- Move vehicles under cover or away from trees;
- Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony;
- Keep clear of fallen power lines;
Sheep graziers are also being warned ahead of cold temperatures, heavy rain and showers during Friday and Saturday.
Wimmera, Northern Country, North Central, North East, South West, Central, West and South Gippsland and East Gippsland district farmers are those believed to be affected.
There is a risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions, the bureau said.
