CAPTAIN: Brent Hamblin.
LAST SEASON: 6th – 6-5-2.
ARRIVALS: Nathan Stubbings.
DEPARTURES: Mitch Collins, Harry Whittle.
SUMMARY: There is a similar look to Kangaroo Flat this season, but with one significant difference.
And that is that after nine-straight seasons as captain, star all-rounder Adam Burns has handed the duties over to his new-ball bowling partner Brent Hamblin.
At this stage the only inclusion for the Roos is Nathan Stubbings, an opening batsman and wicket-keeper.
The confirmed departures are Mitch Collins and Harry Whittle, but the Roos are still unsure if Josh Newlan will be playing this season.
Newlan had a breakout season with the bat last summer in making 409 runs, but if he doesn’t play the Roos have their replacement in Stubbings.
The Roos – who haven’t played finals since 2007-08 – are a side that has been building in recent years with the likes of Jake Klemm, Daniel Barber and Lachlan Shelton having now had plenty of exposure at first XI level with the bat.
Burns and Hamblin are both quality opening bowlers, while another big season from young leg-spinner Chris Barber, who took 45 wickets last summer, will be a boost for the Roos, who must avoid the slow start of recent years if they are to take the next step and push into the top four.
