Senior Constable Brendan Rooney spotted the man behind the wheel of a black Mitsubishi Magna at the Howard Street traffic lights and attempted to make an intercept, having booked the man on Thursday.
The driver pulled onto the wrong side of the Midland Highway and drove towards oncoming traffic, reaching alleged speeds of 100 kilometres per hour heading towards Huntly at 12.30pm.
Police abandoned the intercept without a pursuit, and the car was found soon after dumped in Kirily Court in White Hills.
The driver remains at large, but Senior Constable Rooney said police were aware of his identity.
He said they were keen to hear from motorists who saw the alleged dangerous driving.
“His identity is known to police. We are appealing for witnesses who might have had to get out of the way when he drove on the wrong side of the road,” Senior Constable Rooney said.
“Police are disappointed in the recklessness of this driving. We don’t take kindly to this sort of conduct in Bendigo.”
