CAPTAIN: Shane Koop.
LAST SEASON: 9th – 4-8-1.
ARRIVALS: Shane Koop, Tim Hart.
DEPARTURES: Adam Ward, James Ryan (starting season with Essendon)
SUMMARY: A new captain-coach at the helm of the Goers as Shane Koop takes over the reins.
Koop joins the Goers having previously played at three Premier Cricket Clubs – North Melbourne, Geelong and Richmond/Monash Tigers.
Koop is a top-order batsman and wicket-keeper who is likely to open, but won’t pull on the gloves.
Instead it will be Xavier Ryan behind the stumps.
Apart from Koop, the only other recruit is leg-spinner Tom Hart, who joins from Maryborough and has also played with Premier Cricket club Geelong.
Gone is last season’s captain and leading run-scorer Adam Ward, who is playing with Bundalaguah in Gippsland, while top-order batsman Marcus McKern has a season on the sidelines through suspension.
The Goers also have young gun James Ryan playing the first month of the season with Premier Cricket club Essendon. The talented teenager will then make a decision to either play the full summer downtown, or return to the Goers.
“There hasn’t been a lot of recruiting done. I’m keen to get growth out of the players who have been engaged with the club over a period of time,” Koop said.
