It’s not a new reality TV show, it’s Strathfieldsaye and Districts Community Enterprise’s latest way of picking a recipient for the grant money it raises, this time a cool $5000.
It has had plenty of practice – the group has now raised $1 million for its community – but the exercise in direct democracy is a first for the SDCE.
To celebrate the magic million dollar mark, the group is putting on a carnival, SDCE’s Bianca Nally said.
“Because we’ve contributed to the development of walking and cycling paths throughout Strath, people who participate in the 2km or 4km walk or run will all get the chance to vote for their favourite project,” she said. “Afterwards, we’d love everyone to come down to the carnival where there’ll be lots of children’s entertainment, bands, market stalls and a great family environment.”
The four projects which could win $5000 are:
- Eppalock Primary School Project: Axe Creek Community Kitchen Purpose
- Bendigo Mountain Bike Club Project: Muldoon Reserve Upgrade - Skills Loop Purpose
- Sedgwick Cricket Club Project: upgrade of synthetic pitch
- Strathfieldsaye Football/Netball Club Project: training lights for junior oval
The carnival will be Sunday, October 9 at the Strathfieldsaye Shopping Precinct from 10am-2pm.
Community Fun Run participants must register online through Eventbrite;
