The Bendigo gym was runner-up to Brisbane-based Robertson Gymnastics Academy in a hotly contested competiton at Bendigo Stadium.
Tumbling was just one of the disciplines to feature at the carnival, which was hosted in Bendigo for the second consecutive year and was the biggest multi-gymsport event held in Australia to date.
Sydney-based Castle Hill RSL Youth Club was crowned overall champion club at the 2016 National Clubs Gymnastics Carnival in Bendigo.
After two weeks of competition across multiple disciplines, Castle Hill earned 170.323 points to finish ahead of Kachan School of Tumbling and Performance (KSTP) in second place on 144.317 points.
Robertson Gymnastics Academy, which started the carnival as reigning champions, was third with a score of 136.319.
Castle Hill RSL Youth Club's win was boosted by a dominant performance in the trampoline competition.
Palmer's Gym finished the carnival in 10th place and second among Victorian teams.
The carnival for the first time included a national team-gym competition involving 13 teams, representing eight clubs from across Australia.
Team-gym, while popular in other parts of the world, is very new to Australia.
It consists of the disciplines of floor, tumbling and mini-trampoline – all performed to music.
Teams compete in a variety of different categories - men’s, women’s, mixed, novice, intermediate and advanced.
Teams that score between 8.50 and 10.00 earn a gold award, silver is awarded if they score between 7.00 and 8.49, and a bronze medal is awarded to teams who score up to 6.99.
Gold awards were presented to the novice team representing Engadine Gymnastics Club from New South Wales, as well as to the intermediate team from Yotala Gymnastics (Team 2), also from New South Wales.
In acrobatics competition, Robertson was crowned the overall national champion for the second year in a row.
Castle Hill RSL Youth Club dominated the trampoline competition and was crowned club champions for 2016.
In the double-min trampoline competition, Castle Hill ruled the roost on the podium, with many consistent performances from their athletes enabling them to have seven podium finishes out of the 11 divisions that were contested.
There were also many honourable performances from Cheltenham Youth Club, Kingborough Sports Centre, PCYC Ipswich, and KSTP who all displayed some quality routines in the various finals.
The trampoline division saw Castle Hill RSL Youth Club back atop the podium as the overall champion trampoline club, with Victoria Park Gymnastics and Trampoline Club placing second after putting in some excellent performances throughout the various divisions.
In individual honours, Justin Fokes from KSTP was awarded the champion all-round athlete award, ahead of Dominic Clarke from Castle Hill RSL Youth Club.
The awards acknowledge the performances of athletes who compete across all three disciplines of trampoline gymnastics.
