Shirley Patterson and husband Russell were set up out the front of the City Central News Agency from yesterday morning.
Despite not being a Bulldogs fan, Mrs Patterson said she had been overcome with emotion as the final siren sounded on Saturday night.
“I was crying my eyes out when I saw poor old Bob Murphy, I feel sorry for him,” she said.
The couple have been to every grand final for the past few years, but Mrs Patterson said that tradition would have come to an end if the Doggies had gone down to the Giants.
“We used to line up at Myer and they’d put the television in the window for us so we could see the Brownlow,” she said.
“We wouldn't have gone if two Sydney teams had have been in it, blow that.”
City Central News Agency owner Terry Clohesy said he had opened up especially to cater for fans who wanted to buy tickets the old-fashioned way.
“Ticketek told me I didn’t have to open and I said ‘well these people buy their tickets off us through the year, come to the most important day of the year you can’t deny them the opportunity of geting a ticket,” he said.
“In retail you don’t really have a choice because you’ve got to look after them.”
Mrs Patterson said in years past there had been up to 40 others lined up on the footpath with her, but although many of them now bought their tickets online, she still preferred to buy hers in person.
“A lot of them do it online, but we reckon we get better seats,” she said.
