IT'S been a hectic, but memorable year of netball for young Kangaroo Flat star Ruby Barkmeyer.
And it's not quite finished yet.
The teenager has packed literally dozens of games in for the Roos, her school Geelong Grammar and the School Sport Victoria team she represented in Adelaide in July.
Now she has a BFNL A-grade netball best-on-court medal to go alongside her premiership medallion.
Barkmeyer was the clear standout in Saturday's grand final triumph over Golden Square, earning the praise of all involved either on or off-court at the QEO, most conspicuously from her coach.
"Not only she is a fantastic player, she is the best kid that you could ever ask for," Janelle Hobbs said.
"She is so humble (and) she doesn't let anything get to her.
"She's very calm under pressure. She started off the game when nerves were at a peak and just shot the lights out.
"I'm so proud of her to play an A-grade grand final, get best-on-court at 15.
"It's an awesome effort and she has huge future in our sport."
Barkmeyer shot 49 of her team's 56 goals at 82.1 per cent accuracy, including 12 from 13 attempts in the opening quarter, opposed to the Bulldogs’ Allira Hammond, who was best-on-court in last season’s grand final, and Lucy Morcom.
In much the same no-fuss attitude she takes her netball, the youngster was taking her best-on-court win in her stride.
"It was a great finish way to finish (the season)," she said.
"I think all the training and support from my coaches and family helps get me there.
"Janelle has been fantastic, allowing me to play because I don't get to train."
Just getting Barkmeyer to Bendigo from Geelong or Melbourne, where her school games are played each week, takes a tremendous sacrifice from her parents Melissa and Jamie and older brother Tom.
It’s a gesture she’s thankful for.
One more important netball assignment awaits the youngster, who will represent North Central at the Netball Victoria State Championships early next month.
