The BDCA last season introduced an all-girls junior competition played at the QEO on Monday nights.
This season two age-groups – under-13 and under-16 – will be part of the BDCA’s junior structure.
The BDCA has also announced the appointment of Carli Eaton as its new women’s co-ordinator.
“Last season we basically ran it for the first year as an under-15 girls competition and we’ve learned a few lessons in that we had ages ranging from 10 to 15,” BDCA president Wayne Walsh said.
“By introducing two age groups this season, it gives those under-13 girls the opportunity to learn the basic principles of cricket, similar to the T20 Blast with the boys, while the under-16 girls will also continue their development.”
The BDCA plans to run its under-13 and under-16 girls competitions over six rounds, with three rounds in the first half of the season starting mid-November and three after the summer school holidays.
The appointment of Eaton as women’s co-ordinator is a sign of the BDCA’s commitment to growing the sport for females.
“Carli has played cricket in Canberra, has moved to Bendigo and is looking to get involved in sport,” Walsh said.
“She is community-minded and really wants to see the young players develop. Being a female who has played cricket before, it’s good to have someone who understands the challenges of getting involved in a male-dominated sport.”
