The 830 square metres on Forty Basket Beach was a vacant block when the Robinsons bought it in 1987 for $655,000.
By 1991 they had completed their four-level home with its cruise ship-style curved balconies and balustrades overlooking a tiered garden that lead down to the beach and a boathouse.
Robinson, chair of the US mutual fund Emerging Market Growth Fund, has listed the six-bedroom, six-bathroom home with Jason Guildea, of Guildea Residential with an asking price of $7.5 million to $8 million.
Balgowlah Heights has been doing well from the upsizing plans of Australia's executives in recent years, including RealTimeHealth chairman David Cronin who splashed $6,365,000 on Christmas Eve for a house up the street on beachfront reserve.
The suburb high of $8.5 million was set in 2014 by Caltex chief and managing director Julian Segal when he bought a beachfront reserve a few doors away from the Robinsons. LM

HERITAGE HUNTERS ANSWER
Buyers after heritage looks but thoroughly modern living need look no further. Avonleigh, a stunning Queenslander in Brisbane's Sherwood, has hit the market.
The home's exterior oozes old world luxury, but the interiors reveal a total rebuild that brings the home well into the 21st century.
Vendors Donna and Luke Chapman bought the completely renovated, 1217-square-metre property for $2,375,000 in 2009. While it's being sold without a price guide, similar homes in the area have sold for more than $2.8 million.
Mr Chapman, who runs a financial services consultancy business and a philanthropy consultancy business said he loves the combination of old and new in the home.
"It's the perfect blend of a beautiful old Queensland skin with the benefits of a totally modern house," he said.
Selling agent Jason Adcock said what's "fantastic" about 35 Marlborough Street is "there's not one thing to be done".

IN GOOD COMPANY
In the stratosphere of Australia's finest addresses, Albany Road in Melbourne is on par with the best.
It's a boulevard of power in Victoria's blue ribbon suburb, where multimillion deals are done before breakfast.
Several formidable members of the BRW Rich List live here, from shopping centre tycoon John Gandel, to businessman and former Melbourne Lord Mayor Ron Walker and the Valmorbida family of Lavazza coffee fame (and fortune).
Buying in requires an eight-figure budget and the grand estates are tightly held.
Kay & Burton agent Emma Bloom has listed the elegant No. 32, which carries price expectations of more than $12 million.
It was last on the market 26 years ago, according to Domain Group data.
The six-bedroom, art deco mansion is private from the street and sits on an imposing 1800 square metres, including verdant, landscaped gardens and a championship-size tennis court.
Expressions of interest close on October 25. EP
